Beautifully Accessible Bathroom

From Outdated to Safe, Easy to Use and Beautiful
Increase the accessibility by redesigning the existing spaces for long term ease of use was the client’s wish.  A diagnosis of Parkinson’s with a possible wheelchair in the future motivated this couple to renovate now before the situation became more serious.  The current space posed some unsafe issues.  The tub was too wide to enter and exit safely for the spouse who enjoyed bathing.  The vanity area was spacious but lacked adequate storage and had poor lighting.  The toilet was too low.  The shower had to be stepped into.  Carpet covered all the floors.

While not changing the square footage, the redesign incorporated a safe bathing area, a custom vanity at two heights plus storage, increased lighting, heated porcelain floors, a wet room with comfort height toilet and roll in shower area with a wider entry.  The opening into the space was narrowed and given a barn door for privacy.
